STATIC LINE
UPRATING

SE02: Surface-tolerant
photonic coatings.

Pioneering Static Line Uprating (SLU): In-situ optimisation of conductor properties, offering up to a 30% increase in static line ratings/continuous capacity.

Why Choose SE02?

The direct application of SE02 to overhead power lines can offer a 30% increase in capacity at 5% of the cost of reconductoring via our CAPACITY-1 power line coating robot.

SE02 is designed specifically for ease of application and tolerance in challenging environments. It can be applied directly to existing lines with minimal service disruption.

The coating has over 80% solar reflectance and 0.93 thermal emissivity, passively cooling existing power lines. Static re-rating of the existing conductors via the application of spectrally selective coatings.

The Problem

Existing methods to increase grid capacity are limiting the energy transition. 2.6 TW of interconnection requests currently exist in the US, relative to 1.3TW of existing generation. The US needs to double its historic rate of grid expansion. 70% of interconnection requests fail due to reliability issues (the state of the existing infrastructure).  Innovative Advanced Grid technologies (AGTs) are required to enhance the performance of the existing grid.

The Solution

AssetCool’s SE02 coating lowers conductor temperatures and energy losses (up to 30%) by reducing solar absorption and increasing emissivity. Its robotic in-situ application requires no shutdown, minimizing downtime and cost while boosting transmission efficiency and reliability without full reconductoring.
