AssetCool officially opened its new Terrawatt-1 facility in Batley last week, welcoming utility leaders, policymakers, investors, industry partners, media representatives, and local stakeholders for an afternoon celebrating innovation, manufacturing, and the future of grid infrastructure in the UK. The Mayor Tracy Brabin of West Yorkshire also attended the opening, highlighting the importance of continued investment and innovation within the region.

The afternoon began with guided tours of the Batley facility, where guests were given a behind-the-scenes look at AssetCool’s robotics systems, advanced coatings, and deployment operations. Visitors had the opportunity to meet directly with the engineering, operations, and commercial teams responsible for scaling the company’s technologies and supporting utility customers across the sector.

The tours were followed by the official ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the facility, marking the formal opening of the Batley site. "This state-of-the-art facility is a fantastic example of the ambition, talent and grit that exists in our region,” Mayor Brabin said. "It's businesses like this that are leading the way in advanced manufacturing and climate innovation, ensuring we have the technology and the energy to grow our economy and deliver net zero. To see these skilled, well-paid jobs being created in my hometown of Batley brings home the benefits of embracing the clean technology revolution. By reindustrialising our economy for the jobs and sectors of the future, we will build a stronger, better-off West Yorkshire."

Guests then gathered for the main stage programme, where AssetCool CEO Niall Coogan welcomed attendees and reflected on the significance of the new facility as global demand for grid modernisation technologies continues to accelerate.

"Terrawatt-1 is a major milestone for AssetCool as we scale our technologies to help utilities meet growing demand for grid capacity," said Coogan. "This facility strengthens our ability to deliver innovative solutions that support the energy transition while positioning AssetCool for its next phase of growth."

A key highlight of the event was the live on-stage panel discussion, “Powering the Future: How the UK Can Cultivate the Next Generation of Energy Unicorns.” The session was moderated by Danny Ellis and featured Samuel Walker from Ofgem and Robert Hornby from Mercia Ventures. The discussion explored how the UK can better support energy hardware and climate-tech companies through targeted investment, effective regulation, and greater opportunities for commercial deployment.

Alongside the panel discussion, AssetCool department heads also took to the stage to provide updates on the company’s latest developments, offering guests insight into the company’s long-term vision and growth plans.

The opening of Terrawatt-1 facility marks a major milestone not only for AssetCool, but also for the wider region, reinforcing Batley’s role in supporting advanced manufacturing, clean energy innovation, and high-growth climate technology businesses in the UK.

“Delivering Terawatt-1 has been an important milestone for AssetCool. From identifying the site to overseeing its transformation alongside GRW Group, it has been incredibly rewarding to see the vision become reality. This purpose-built facility will support AssetCool’s next phase of growth, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together,” said Thomas Walker, Site Manager, who led the development of the site.
