AssetCool Awarded £950,000 through Innovate UK Partnerships Programme to Accelerate Aerial Robotic Power Line Technology

November 2025 Leeds, UK

AssetCool, a company developing the technology to robotically upgrade overhead transmission lines, has been awarded £950,000 through Innovate UK Investor Partnerships Programme to broaden its ambitious portfolio of grid robotics innovations.

The project will enable AssetCool to transform the way utilities deploy, operate, and maintain transmission infrastructure by driving down the cost and complexity of getting fleets of robots on overhead lines.

Aligned with this initiative, Extantia Capital, a leading European climate-tech investor and existing shareholder in AssetCool, has committed an additional £330,000 co-investment in line with the grant terms, to support the development of the technology.

The Frontier of Power Line Maintenance and Capacity Enhancement

AssetCool’s robotics portfolio enables automated coating and surface optimization of power lines, unlocking increased transmission capacity, reduced losses, and extended asset lifespan. The new project - supported through the Innovate UK Investor Partnerships programme - will extend these capabilities for autonomous deployment and integrate an advanced sensing stack to collect significant data about power line condition during operations.

The outcome will be a coordinated, multi-robot system capable of autonomously deploying, inspecting, and enhancing overhead line infrastructure more efficiently and safely than ever before.

Driving the Future of Intelligent Grid Infrastructure

“This grant contributes to AssetCool’s continued and rapid journey to modernize power line operations with world leading robotics,” said Dr Niall Coogan, CEO of AssetCool. “We’re aiming to unlock the next level of scalability and automation. This innovation will make it feasible, economically and logistically, to deploy hundreds of robots across transmission networks, safely increasing grid capacity with unparalleled speed to power.”

Extantia Capital’s participation underscores continued investor confidence in AssetCool’s technology and its potential to accelerate the decarbonization of grid infrastructure worldwide.

“As a fund, we see the grid as a fundamental enabler for the growth of our economies - especially sustainable ones,” said Torben Schreiter, Partner at Extantia Capital. “AssetCool successfully delivers a unique technology to utilities already today. Their approach to simply retrofit existing power lines with additional transmission capacity is fast, highly efficient and comes with an outstanding growth potential. We are proud to further support their journey alongside Innovate UK.”
